Cocoon HQ – Spiral Building by Camenzind Evolution

PUBLIC DESIGN

The Austrian architects Camenzind Evolution believe that there is no better form for a building than a snail shell. So they created one in the form of the shell. The office building is located on a picturesque hill in the Swiss city of Zurich, Switzerland. It is surrounded on all sides by trees, and it looks like modern glass island in the primeval forest.

The creators of this unusual house named their creation Cocoon HQ. Inside the building is a real snail. There is no such thing as a floor in the conventional sense of the word. There is a single continuous plane, which leads from the first level to the roof. And along this plane are the rooms. So it is difficult to say how many floors are there. Impossible, but, judging by the appearance of the building, we can say that their are three. The unusual structure of the building has its advantages, not only in aesthetic terms. It also positively affects the coverage of it – a glass roof, which spreads the natural sunlight over the atrium and reaches all the corners of the snail.
